Hyaluronic Acid Serum – counteracting signs of skin aging with highly concentrated active ingredients

Maintaining an even, radiant complexion and a firm, supple complexion is important for many of us. Although skin aging is a complex biological process that after decades of research has not yet been fully understood or even been brought to a halt, certain signs of skin aging can be attenuated with a hyaluronic acid serum.

Hyaluronic acid serums and anti-aging

To understand how hyaluronic serums work in anti-aging, we need to understand the effects of extrinsic (external) and intrinsic (internal) aging.

With extrinsic aging, external influences such as UV radiation, environmental pollution, but also nicotine consumption lead to premature skin aging.

Intrinsic aging includes genetic predisposition, hormonal balance, general state of health and stress levels.

In both cases, over time, the skin can lose:

  • hydration
  • radiance
  • elasticity
  • firmness

To a certain extent, hyaluronic acid serums can counteract these signs of natural skin aging.

How does a hyaluronic serum counteract the signs of aging?

Loss of hydration:

This is mainly caused by the fact that the body’s own hyaluronic acid production in the epidermis decreases. Hyaluronan is part of the extracellular matrix and binds large amounts of moisture to hold in the skin.

Less hyaluronic acid in the skin means that less moisture is bound, the skin becomes drier and the result is a sallower, more uneven complexion.

Hyaluronic acid can be applied externally in the form of a serum to counteract the loss of hydration. A serum with low molecular weight hyaluronic acid is particularly suitable here, as it can bind moisture in the skin.

Loss of radiance:

Radiance is created by the reflection of light off a smooth skin surface. Our epidermis is constantly renewing itself. That is, cells die and new ones come after. With increasing age, the rate of new cell formation slows down and the skin renewal cycle falls to 40 to 60 days (for comparison: at a young age it is around 28 days). This means that more dead skin cells are deposited on the horny layer (stratum corneum) and creates the appearance of rough, dry skin that reflects light poorly.

A hyaluronic acid serum can lead to improved radiance by activating the communication between the cells. Thus hyaluronic acid takes on an important function in cell renewal.

Peelings also help against a loss of radiance by removing dead skin cells.

Loss of elasticity and firmness:

Our skin changes structurally over the years. The epidermis becomes thinner, as the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the dermis decreases, and the fiber structure also becomes weaker, which reduces the volume of the subcutaneous tissue.

The consequences are “sunken” skin, fine lines and later wrinkles, as well as a loss of elasticity.

Here, hyaluronic acid serums with low-molecular hyaluronic acid can support the skin.

Used regularly, they help replenish the skin’s moisture depots and counteract sunken skin by naturally “plumping it up” from the inside.

Hyaluronic Acid Serums in eye care

Our delicate eye area is often the first area in which we notice fine lines and wrinkles, as it has some unique features: the skin around our eyes is particularly thin while our muscles are in constant movement and the region around our eyes does not produce any sebum.

A pure hyaluronic acid serum can help supply this sensitive area with the moisture it needs and thus help reduce signs of aging. If choosing a serum for the eye area, you should make sure that it has a low concentration of fragrances, or ideally is fragrance-free.

We recommend the Pure Hyaluronic Intense Serum for use in the eye area.
