Hyaluronic Acid Ampoules
Hyaluron ampoules or moisturizing ampoules are considered one of the most concentrated forms of skincare. But what actually distinguishes an ampoule from a serum, when is a treatment course worthwhile, and what should you look for when buying? Here is an overview.

01 What exactly are hyaluronic acid ampoules?
Hyaluronic acid ampoules (also known as hyaluronic acid vials, moisturizing ampoules, or facial ampoules) are small, usually individually packaged portions of active ingredients. Each ampoule contains exactly the right amount for a single application.
The principle behind this: Instead of an active ingredient that has to remain stable in a large bottle for weeks, an ampoule provides a fresh, highly concentrated single dose, usually with a particularly short, clean list of ingredients.
02 Ampoules vs. Serum: Treatment or daily staple?
Serums and ampoules are often confused because both formats rely on highly concentrated hyaluronic acid. The difference lies primarily in their intended use.
Serum: The daily essential
For long-term, year-round use as an integral part of your skincare routine, morning and evening.
Ampoule: The targeted boost
For a short-term treatment (e.g., 7 or 30 days) or as an instant boost before a special occasion.
Many use both formats to complement each other: the serum as a base, the ampoule for phases with increased moisture needs, such as in winter, after traveling, or before special occasions. You can find more about the daily serum routine in our serum guide.
03 Why hyaluronic acid ampoules are so effective
The effect of hyaluronic ampoules is usually based on their high dosage and specialized formulation. In hyaluronic ampoules, for example, high- and low-molecular hyaluronic acid can be combined. High-molecular hyaluronic acid binds moisture directly to the skin's surface and provides the well-known immediate effect. Low-molecular hyaluronic acid additionally penetrates deeper and immediately provides the skin with intensive moisture.
High-molecular: Immediate effect
Responsible for the instantly noticeable plump, smoother skin feeling immediately after application.
Low molecular weight: deep action
Absorbs and supports the moisture reservoirs in the upper layers of the skin more sustainably.
Regarding the term "ionized": Some brands market their active ingredient ampoules as "ionized" to suggest better absorption into the skin. As of yet, there is no uniform, scientifically well-defined standard behind this term. More decisive for the actual effect are the molecular size and concentration of the active ingredient.
We explain more about the background of molecular sizes in detail in our guide to high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid.
04 How to properly use hyaluronic acid ampoules
Morning or evening? Both are possible. In the morning, the immediate effect provides a fresh complexion; in the evening, the application supports the skin's nocturnal regeneration.
01 Cleanse face
This allows the active ingredient to be absorbed without obstruction.
02 Open the ampoule and apply the contents to slightly damp skin
Apply evenly to face, neck, and décolleté.
03 Gently pat in and allow to absorb completely
Do not rub, but gently "pat" into the skin
04 Finish with your usual skincare routine
A light lotion or makeup provides an additional seal for moisture. When using highly concentrated high-molecular hyaluronic acid, it is important not to apply an overly rich cream over the ampoule.
The ampoule treatment: individually or as a course?
As a treatment cure
Ampoules can be used as a treatment for several days in a row (e.g., 7 or 30 days). This ensures noticeably more hydration over a longer period of time.
For an immediate effect
They are also suitable for an immediate effect before a special occasion and ensure an instantly plumper, fresher-looking complexion.
What does "hyaluronic acid concentrate" mean?
The term is often used synonymously with "ampoule" and refers to the same principle: a particularly highly concentrated portion of hyaluronic acid, often significantly more potent than an everyday serum. While a serum is designed for a continuous, moderate supply of active ingredients, a concentrate in ampoule form delivers the maximum amount of active ingredients at once. Ideal for a time-limited ampoule treatment or phases of acute dryness.
The advantage of an individually sealed portion:
Compared to a classic serum, the ampoule format offers two concrete advantages:
1. Hygiene:
Since each ampoule is individually sealed, the contents only come into contact with air upon opening and therefore carry no risk of contamination from repeated dipping or pumping.
2. Stability of active ingredients:
When hermetically sealed, the hyaluronic acid contained oxidizes much more slowly than in a bottle that has been open for weeks.
FAQs
05 Frequently Asked Questions about Hyaluronic Acid Ampoules
What is the difference between hyaluronic ampoules and a hyaluronic serum?
A serum is intended for permanent, daily use. Ampoules are often even more highly concentrated and are designed as a time-limited treatment or a targeted instant-effect boost, for instance before special occasions or during phases of dry skin.
What is the difference between an ampoule treatment and a hyaluronic acid concentrate?
There is no real difference, as both terms refer to the same principle. "Hyaluronic concentrate" describes the particularly high dose of active ingredients in the ampoule, while "ampoule treatment" refers to the application over several consecutive days, usually 7 or 30 days. An ampoule treatment is therefore the typical way to use a hyaluronic concentrate.
How often and for how long should I use a hyaluronic acid ampoule treatment?
Treatment courses over 7 or 30 consecutive days are common, followed by a break. Some also use individual ampoules specifically before special occasions for an immediate effect, rather than doing a continuous course.
Should I use hyaluronic acid ampoules in the morning or in the evening?
Both are possible. In the morning, the instant effect ensures a fresh, plump appearance throughout the day. In the evening, the application supports the skin's nocturnal regeneration.
Who are hyaluronic acid ampoules suitable for?
Hyaluronic acid ampoules are suitable for almost every skin type, as pure hyaluronic acid is non-comedogenic. They are particularly popular for dry, tired, or stressed skin, as well as before special occasions.
Where can I buy hyapur® hyaluronic acid ampoules?
Directly in the hyapur® online shop, available for travel or in a 30-piece set as a complete treatment.
